The story dramatizes the forming, rise and eventual break-up of the original four members of The Four Seasons. The musical is separated into four sections, with each section narrated by a different member of the band: Spring (Tommy DeVito), Summer (Bob Gaudio), Fall (Nick Massi) and Winter (Frankie Valli); each member has a different perspective on the band and their contribution to it. In Spring, Tomy De Vito offers to tell the story of the band, explaining how he started out with the group "The Variety Band" with his brother Nick DeVito and friend Nick Massi, eventually discovering teenager Frankie and taking him under his wing, teaching him everything he knows. Summer part that depict by Bob Gaudio, throws light on the conflict between the Bob and Tommy. Band has an "identity crisis" and need to make a firm decision on a name and a sound. There is a drastic change in Frankie life. In Fall, Nick observes that Tommy became jealous of Frankie's success and closeness with Bobby. Tommy's been racking up debts. In winter, along with the success of "Working My Way Back to You", Frankie and Bobby finally finish paying off Tommy's debts, and Frankie's life is good until his daughter Francine dies from drug overdose. The musical has won several Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Actor, Best Featured Actor and Best Lighting. The show is broken into four different sections, each narrated by one of The Four Seasons. The first part of the show is narrated by Tommy DeVito. Tommy tells how he and Nick Massi discovered Frankie Castelluccio, who eventually became Frankie Valli. Bob Gaudio narrates the next bit, telling how the group struggled in their early days, often singing back-up vocals for established acts while waiting for their big break. That big break came when Gaudio wrote the band's first hit, Sherry. Nick Massi takes over narration duties for the beginning of the second act. The successes of the band's early years have taken their toll on the group, and this part of the musical shows the increasing tension in The Four Seasons. Eventually Tommy and Nick leave the group, while Bob and Frankie try to find a way to hold on to their past success. Eventually, even Bob Gaudio decides to leave the band, and Frankie Valli takes over both the narration of the musical show and the musical direction of The Four Seasons. The band changes its name to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and scores a big hit with Can't Take My Eyes Off You. The show concludes with the band's reunion at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It ends on a high note with one last big production number of Who Loves You. |
